Limberg 3 is thus another state-of-the-art pumped storage power plant in Austria that is ideally suited to the especially demanding requirements of the energy transition. ANDRITZ is proud to support the customer VERBUND in realizing this important pumped storage project in the heart of the Austrian alps.
Here PORR is applying its extensive experience in building pumped storage power plants. In addition to the Ebensee project, PORR is also currently constructing the caverns and galleries for the Limberg III pumped storage power plant in Salzburg, Rodund in Vorarlberg, both in Austria, as well as Forbach in Germany. Spectacular work steps
The storage power plant project, another storage lake and a pumped storage power plant are being built as the second upper stage of the existing Sellrain-Silz power plant group. With this upper stage, the overall efficiency of the power plant group in electricity generation can be sustainably increased.
The construction is currently the largest project for Austria's largest energy group. The investments, including the raising of the largest dam, the 'Limbergsperre', amount to 572 million euros. The plant, which is positioned completely underground, is scheduled to go into operation in mid-2025 and will then be part of the Kaprun power plant group.
