Develop a prototype for a new eco-designed and easy dismantling PV panel using tailor-made debonding on-demand adhesives. Create a digital platform to implement Digital Product
This is how SOPHIA, the European project revolutionizing the recycling and traceability of solar panels in the photovoltaic sector, is progressing.

One of SOPHIA's great contributions is the creation of a prototype that allows analyzing the state of health (SoH) of solar panels Thanks to this system, it's possible to evaluate efficiency, detect dark areas or structural damage, and decide whether the panel should be repaired or recycled.
Note on market segmentation: Commercial solar encompasses distributed solar projects with commercial, industrial, agricultural, school, government, or nonprofit offtakers, including remotely net-metered projects. This excludes community solar (covered in the following section).
According to Aimplas, solar panels with remaining efficiency greater than 80 percent will be repaired using robot-assisted equipment and high-performance dielectric varnish. The nonreparable ones will be recycled using technologies to maximize the separation of their main components, which include glass, silicon, metals and plastics.
