Sinn Power has deployed a 1.8 MW vertical solar array on a quarry lake in the Bavarian municipality of Gilching. The company highlights the ecological benefits of the vertical system configuration and, perhaps surprisingly, its high resistance to storms. From pv magazine Germany
Total production increased by around 10.8 TWh or 18 % compared to the previous year. Their share of net public electricity generation was 14 percent. At 8.7 TWh, July 2024 was the month with the highest solar power generation. As in 2023, photovoltaic expansion again ex-ceeded the German government's targets in 2024.
Germany in the load, i.e. the electricity mix that comes out of the socket, was 56 per-cent compared to 55.3 percent in 2023. In addition to the net public electricity generation, the total net electricity generation also includes electricity generated by industry and commerce for their own use, which is mainly gas-fired.
Bavaria’s Minister-President Markus Söder was among the keynote speakers. The groundbreaking ceremony in November, when around 50 modules had already been installed, had already drawn high-profile visitors, including Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger.
On balance, Germany exported electricity to Austria (7.2 TWh), Poland (3.5 TWh), Luxembourg (3.5 TWh) and the Czech Republic (2.8 TWh). Electricity exchange prices rose significantly in November and December, which made fossil fuel-based electricity generation at times more profitable than it had been in the summer.
The system became operational on August 21 at a gravel pit lake in Gilching, Bavaria, in southern Germany, and was officially inaugurated last Friday. Bavaria’s Minister-President Markus Söder was among the keynote speakers.
